Preventative healthcare services

PREVENTATIVE CARE SERVICES AIM TO AVOID THE OCCURRENCE OF DISEASE OR SICKNESS, AND TO ENSURE YOUR PETS ARE STAYING HEALTHY. THESE SERVICES INCLUDE VACCINATIONS, PARASITE CONTROL, WELLNESS EXAMINATIONS, AND OUR COMPLIMENTARY WEIGHT MANAGEMENT PROGRAM.

Meet and greet

Meet and greet

We’d love to meet your new pet right away! We offer a ‘meet and greet’ appointment when you first acquire your pet, to make sure there are no underlying problems. This is an ideal opportunity for you to get to know us, and also for your pet to get to know us on an occasion when nothing ‘scary’ will happen. At a visit like this we can talk about the value of vaccinations, which pet insurance might suit you best, how the introduction to other pets is going, and anything else that’s on your mind.

Microchipping

Microchipping

We strongly recommend that all pets should be microchipped, even those wearing a collar with an identification tag. Microchipping is a safe, dependable, and simple identification solution that will dramatically increase the chances of being reunited with your pet. We use Virbac’s BackHome chip because it’s the smallest on the market and therefore the least painful to insert. It’s also backed up by a reliable and accessible database.

Preventative medicine

Preventative medicine

We encourage preventative medicine through early disease detection for adult and senior pets. Because pets are living longer, they may experience an increase in problems such as cancer, diabetes, dental disease, and vision impairment. The earlier a problem is diagnosed and a treatment plan started, the better the outcome, so we recommend an annual examination by a veterinarian to detect changes or illness in pets as they age. Pets with chronic problems should be examined every six months.

Flea, tick & parasite control

Flea, tick & parasite control

Fleas and ticks are capable of transmitting infection and disease, some of which have the potential to be fatal. It’s imperative that owners prevent these parasites by using one of the many products commercially available. Our staff will help you to choose the correct product based on your pets risk factors and health status.

Vaccinations

Vaccinations

Vaccines are key preventative care measures critical to the wellbeing of your pets, and are particularly critical in young animals with their naive immune systems. Vaccination typically starts at 6 to 8 weeks of age and the puppy and kitten series is completed around 16 weeks of age, with an annual vaccination and examination recommended thereafter. Our doctors will help you decide which vaccines are appropriate for your pet’s risk factors.

Sterilizations

Sterilizations

There are many benefits to sterilizing your pet. In the big picture, it reduces the number of unwanted pets from accidental litters.  But on an individual level sterilization reduces or even eliminates the incidence of some diseases including uterine infections, ovarian cancers, prostate cancer and more. We perform routine spays and castrations on female and male pets at 6 to 12 months of age, and also perform sterilizations on pigs, rats and rabbits. Our doctors are always willing to help you decide when the best time to sterilize your pet is.

Pet slimmer program

Pet slimmer program

There are many different reasons for an animal to be or to appear to be overweight. Obesity in pets carries many health risks and losing weight is important and can be very rewarding. Diet, exercise, treats and lifestyle changes are often needed, and our team is there to advise and help with these changes as part of this complimentary program.
